It has been a while since I have updated the site with the going ons of the book. As of right now, the book is copy edited, the front cover design is in and approved and the info for the back cover is in. It should be going to print very shortly and we might have a book in hand by Samhain!!

The anthology development is in full swing. I got in some wonderful submissions and know that some good ones are forthcoming because of promises from authors. I hope to have more of an idea of a timeline after October 1st and when we might be able to read all the essays of minority Pagan experiences. I am very excited because of the great submissions I have gotten so far.

Other than that….. stay posted for updates on both books coming from Megalithic/Immanion Press!!

I have been working thru the book after the return of the final edit was returned from the publisher’s editor Michelle. It has been interesting to read through the book since a large majority of it was written in the beginning of 2009. There have been a lot of things that have changed in my personal life since many of the parts of the book were written and it has been an eye opener to read thru it all together. My plan is to complete the read thru in the next couple of days and send it off to the publisher.

I have also been actively looking for potential writers for the upcoming anthology on minorities within Paganism. There are plenty of minorities in the Wiccan or Pagan faith but it has also been interesting to reach out to one sect of people when that has not been my previous experience. I am looking forward to reading some of the pieces that come in and I have already gotten a nice one that I read the other week.

Stay tuned for more updates as they unfold.

I have received the MMS from my editor with the final edits done. I am in the process of reading through the book, a decision I made last night, prior to sending it to the publisher. Since it has been so long since I have seen it all together, I thought it might be good to read it through. I am taking this week to do this and then it is off……..

I am excited to see the process of the book go to the next step after a lot of hard work between myself and the editor Michelle Mueller. I am grateful for all the work she has put into my book and I am also trying to be patient with the personal process I am going thru in my grief that makes it hard to feel like I am on track.

More updates to come! Stay tuned……

Pagan Writers Community is a great resource that has come forward in the last year. Started by a single person (who happens to be a close spiritual friend to me) Angie M, it has slowly become one of the forces within the pagan community.

One of the newest ventures that PWC is embarking on is the addition of a new small press publishing service. The first project will be an anthology called Our Natural World! I am working on my submission for the anthology and I would like to encourage others who want to share their voices to also submit.

http://paganwriterspress.com/2010/03/our-natural-world-anthology/

“Our Natural World” Anthology
Published by Pagan Writers Press
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2010
Tentative Release Date: Summer 2010
Send Submissions To: submissions@paganwriterspress.com

Please write the word “SUBMISSION” in the subject line of your email, followed by the title of your story.

We are looking for poetry and short stories that celebrate the natural world around us to showcase in our first anthology. Stories can be of any genre as long as they adhere to the submission guidelines. Short story submissions should be 1,500 to 5,000 words.

All profits from this anthology will go to the Pagan Writers Community, an organization dedicated to the education, promotion and inspiration of alternative-faith writers.

Email for inquiries and submissions:

Megalithica Books, an imprint of Immanion Press (Stafford, U.K./Portland, OR, U.S.A) is seeking submissions for an anthology on people of color working in magical communities. This anthology will be an opportunity to get the voices and experiences of minorities within the Pagan community out to the world and address some of the challenges, stereotyping, frustrations and the beauty of being different within the racial construct of typical Pagan or Wiccan groups. These communities include (but are not limited to) groups and individuals working in Wicca, Voodoo, Umbanda, Shaman, and other Pagan paths.

Many of the roots of Paganism have come from the lands of people of color yet the mainstreaming of Wicca has elevated images of worship and deity that connect with Celtic, Greek or Roman cultures. This can have an exclusive effect on those who’s culture or ancestry fall outside of those categories. Interestingly enough people of color within Paganism are often walking between the worlds of their birth ancestry and culture and that of their spiritual culture. This anthology is an opportunity to share your stories and experiences with others around being a minority in our spiritual community.

Here are some suggested topics to give you an idea of the focus of this anthology.

Your experience of integration into the Pagan community

Magical work

Ancestor work

Integrating your birth culture with your spiritual workings

Personal experiences and thoughts around how being of color within the Pagan community was significant.
What magical work are you doing now? How do you describe it? Do you work alone, in a group, or in several settings?

Your birth culture and spiritual workings

Stereotypes and prejudice
Being the only person of color in a coven, group or community

Sharing your culture and history with other Pagans

Cultural history

Sub-culture of African Americans, Hispanics or other minority groups within Wicca or Paganism.

Is there a sense of acceptance within the magical community you work in? Do you encounter resistance in your magical community or acceptance?

What do you feel is needed to be more inclusive of racial diversity in Pagan communities

Rough drafts are due July 15, 2010. These drafts will be edited in a back-and-forth process with the editor. Essays should be 1500-4000 words, although if your work falls outside those limits, do submit it – we can discuss this during the editing process. Drop us an email if you are unsure whether your idea fits into the content. The sooner you start the communication process the better, as after the deadline we won’t be considering additional ideas.

Essay requirements:
• Citations for all quoted, paraphrased, or otherwise unoriginal material
• Bibliography of works cited
• Prefer APA format

Do write in your voice! If you’re academically inclined or trained, feel free to be as intelligent and technical as you like. If your work entirely talks in the first person about your own experience, please include this also. There is a wide range of voices, and we are interested in being as inclusive of style as possible.

Accepted contributors will receive a free copy of the anthology when it is published and additional copies sold at 40% off the cover price to contributors. All contributors will be provided with a contract upon final acceptance of their essays, not when they are accepted for editing. If your essay is not accepted for the anthology, we will tell you after the first round of edits.

The anthology will be edited by Crystal Blanton. She is the author of an upcoming pagan/occult nonfiction book called Bridging the Gap; Working Within the Dynamics of Pagan Groups and Society. She may be found online at http://www.crystalblanton.org and her email address for this anthology is crystal@crystalblanton.com .
